Post-Doctoral Researcher or Graduate Student- Evaluating the Reactions or Interactions of Materials in Extreme Environments Using a Confocal Microscope

· Through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), this posting seeks highly motivated PostBS, PostMS or PostDoc research associate with materials knowledge/experience to conduct, analyze, and report the results obtained from the operation of two high temperature confocal scanning laser microscopes (HTCSLM) at NETL who has experience preferred in the following areas:

o course work metallurgy, ceramics, physics, chemistry, and engineering

o knowledge of material thermodynamics and kinetics

o knowledge of gaseous corrosion and/or hot-corrosion of metals, ceramics, and/or glasses

o ability to operate computer software needed to control a confocal furnace, scanning laser microscope, and to analyze data

Through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), this posting seeks motivated post-doc or graduate student to design and conduct experiments in the high-temperature (1,400°K gas temperature), high-pressure NETL aero-thermal test rig to evaluate geometries and develop correlations for enhanced heat transfer for use in gas turbine vanes and blades who would be expected to be familiar with CFD techniques and ability to perform CFD modeling is a plus.

Lasker Essay Contest 2017, deadline April 3!

Dear Colleague,

The deadline for the Lasker Foundation’s 2017 Essay Contest is approaching! This exciting challenge engages young scientists and clinicians in a discussion about the big questions in biology and medicine today, and the role of biomedical research in our society.

Deadline for submitting essays is Monday, April 3, 2017.

The Foundation seeks essays of 800 words or less on the following topic:

Using at least one specific example, propose ways in which breakthroughs in biomedical research can be made part of the daily global dialogue, so that a much wider public becomes better informed and more supportive of biomedical research endeavors.

The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) invites exceptional young researchers to apply for the ARL Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship provides recipients the opportunity to pursue independent research while working alongside some of the nation’s best scientists and engineers. Applicants must display extraordinary ability in scientific research and show clear promise of becoming outstanding leaders. Successful candidates will have tackled a major scientific or engineering problem or will have provided a new approach or insight, as evidenced by a recognized impact in their field.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree in the physical sciences, life sciences, computational sciences, behavioral sciences, or engineering and must have earned their doctoral degree no earlier than May 1, 2014.
There are no citizenship requirements; however, selected fellows must successfully complete a Department of Defense clearance process, requiring a background security investigation.
Applicants must demonstrate exceptional qualifications with respect to academic and scholarly achievement, as evidenced by research and publication.
Candidates are expected to have conducted research on a major scientific or engineering problem during their thesis work or have provided a new approach or insight evidenced by a recognized impact in their field.
Fellowship terms and benefits
A stipend of $100,000 annually
Health insurance (including dental and vision)
Paid relocation and a professional travel allowance
Appointments are for one year renewable for up to three years based on performance.
Fellowship appointments require a full-time commitment to the research program at ARL, and Fellows must be in residence at ARL during the entire period of the appointment.

Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program

The Intelligence Community (IC) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program offers scientists and engineers from a wide variety of disciplines unique opportunities to conduct research in a wide range of topics relevant to the Intelligence Community. The research is conducted by the Postdocs, while working in partnership with a Research Advisor and collaborating with an advisor from the Intelligence Community.

Award Details:

  • Annual stipends range from $75,000 to $79,000, depending on research location

Research and Teaching positions available at Ton Duc Thang University

Ton Duc Thang University is recruiting a number of lecturers,  scientists, researchers and experts with Doctoral degree in all fields.

Especially, we are looking for candidates in the following fields: Informetrics (scientometrics, bibliometrics, information science, science of science policy), Geographic information system, Information technology, Statistics, Economics, Management (Sport, Marketing, Hospitality, International Business), Social Sciences, Law and Pharmacy.

I. FOR POSITIONS INVOLVING BOTH RESEARCH AND TEACHING

Candidates can either be foreigners or Overseas Vietnamese ones. The positions are available on a long-term (at least 12 months) basis with the following conditions:

1. DUTIES

a. Teaching: Scholars and experts are expected to teach at least 02 school subjects with required teaching hours as follows: Lecturer: 12 hours/week; Assistant/Associate Professor: 09 hours/week; Professor: 06 hours/week. One hour is equivalent to 60 minutes.

b. Research: Lecturer: at least one paper/year in peer-reviewed journals (English only) published by prestigious publishers and/or institutions; Assistant Professor: one paper/year in journals indexed by Scopus; Associate Professor/Professor: one paper/year in high-impact journals indexed by ISI Web of Knowledge. Monetary award will be given to papers beyond the minimal required one.

c. Service: Services with compensation (extra pay or reduction of teaching load) include first level administration position, Head of the department or Head of the faculty (if needed). Services without compensation include: curriculum plan/design/revision, slides and teaching materials preparation; internship arrangement, student employment support, recruitment of international students for the department/faculty; industrial connection to seek projects and fund; student affairs, international affairs, organizing or supporting conferences; searching for scholarships for lecturers and students, establishing research group, finding and introducing scholars and experts to work for the faculty, etc.

Every year, foreign scholars and experts receive performance evaluation from students,departments and the university. Based on the evaluation results of teaching, research and service, an extension of contract or salary increase will be determined.
