ARN Save-the-Date! Postdoc Workshop

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be hosting the next ARN Postdoc Workshop on January 14-15, 2016 in Edinburg, TX.

More Information about the ARN Post Doc Workshop.

We are excited about hosting the ARN Postdoc Workshop this year and have planned 2 major activities (plus some informal networking events):

  1. Job Fair on Thursday January 14, 2016 in the late afternoon. UTRGV currently has nearly 90 open faculty positions that will be searched for in 2015-2016; many of the positions are in STEM/SBS/Economics departments. Representatives from colleges, schools and departments will be available to meet with the ARN postdocs and discuss open faculty jobs. This will be an excellent opportunity for women postdocs who may be seeking a tenure-track academic position in the near future.
  2. Mini-Teaching Workshop on the morning of Friday January 15, 2016 led by pedagogy experts (a.k.a. Master Teachers) from our UTeach program.

At last year’s postdoc workshop at the University of Houston, many attendees expressed concerns about their lack of teaching experience and preparation. This workshop was born out of these discussions. The postdocs will be coached by the UTeach Master Teachers on different teaching approaches and have the opportunity to prepare and present a short lecture or activity. They will be given substantive feedback from their peers and from the Master Teachers to improve their technique, and will have the option of being videotaped. We will also provide the attendees with a short book on teaching (The Little Orange Book by the University of Texas System); information on how to write an effective teaching philosophy statement; and information about teaching resources that they can utilize.
