Science Diplomacy and Policy Conference – The University of Arizona

The University of Arizona is pleased to announce and invite you to attend Science Diplomacy and Policy with focus on the Americas. This conference will be convened in Tucson from February 22 to 24, 2017. The conference goal is to bring scientists, policy scientists, students, and others to participate in these discussions on the potential reach of science policy and diplomacy.

To that end, with the support of E. William Colglazier, we have organized a preeminent group of distinguished national and international experts in the field of science diplomacy. They will discuss the role of various agents involved in achieving science driven policy objectives and improving relationships through science collaborations. The conversation will then shift to the science diplomacy in relation to the UN Sustainability Development Goals and Climate and Water Resources issues in the Americas.

We would greatly appreciate if you shared this information with any departments or individuals you think may be interested in joining us for this event. More information is available on the flyer below and attached and our website (https://global.arizona.edu/science-diplomacy).

NETL POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAM (PGRP) – Open to Postdocs!

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) Postgraduate Research Program (PGRP), managed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, is a high-intensity program designed to not only identify recent master’s and doctoral graduates of high promise, but to continue developing advanced research skills within those graduates. It allows the postgraduate researcher to systematically outline career goals and helps provide the means of achieving these goals. One way the program helps to achieve these goals is the critical interaction with NETL principal investigators, who become the postgraduate’s mentor. This interaction affords the postgraduate researcher a unique opportunity to define and structure his or her investigations, to establish a research paradigm, and to publish results– all critical skills needed to become an independent scientist or engineer. See the NETL On-Site Research Core Competencies.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AREAS

  • Carbon Management
  • Chemical Reaction Engineering
  • Combustion Science
  • Computational Research

Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholars Program – Call for Applications

The Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholars Program attracts high-achieving postdoctoral researchers from premier universities in the United States to do research at one of four Israeli universities. Once they complete their research, many Zuckerman postdocs are expected to accept faculty positions at top North American universities, weaving a network of academic collaboration and goodwill that will greatly benefit U.S.-Israeli scientific cooperation.

The Zuckerman Postdoctoral program strengthens the connection between the participants and the countries of the United States and Israel through unique experiences and new relationships formed during the program.

In addition, Zuckerman scholars enjoy programming and activities specially organized for them by the host universities, such as sightseeing tours, educational experiences, and social programs. These activities are aimed at strengthening the scholars’ knowledge of and affiliation with Israel, and at cultivating an esprit de corps within the program.

Duration and Funding:

  • Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholarships are up to two years.
  • The amount of the stipend is $50,000 per year up to two years, with $36,000 each year devoted to living expenses and $14,000 each year for research ($10,000) and travel ($4000) expenses.
